Marketing & Audience Engagement

Business Practices

This cycle, our management team implemented business quotas to better advertise our magazine. In previous years, we've had a $150 requirement for every staff member, a payment that usually resulted in money coming out-of-pocket for our writers instead of through community engagement. This year, we decided to encourage writers to go into the community by having them go physically into 4 businesses and email 8 others who may buy a subscription.

Story Promos

Whenever a writer reports on a story that is high-interest or especially relevant to the school community, we encourage our writers to create an Instagram story promotions. After finishing our features package on culture, I created a story promotion that also fit the design of our package, ultimately allowing me to bring more eyes to the work of the writers in my section

MOTS - NBA Playoffs

We recently brought back our Man on the Street coverage in a TikTok format because we thought these short-interview style videos mimicked what was already popular online. Here, I decided to cover the NBA playoffs because it was timely for the playoffs to start. In this video, I was able to meet some of the sources that don’t get covered by El Estoque enough, including some freshmen, which gave me much more diverse sourcing.
